My Journey: From Self-Taught Coder to AI Consultant

I grew up in Nigeria, where opportunities in technology were scarce—especially for women. But I was determined to create my own path.

In university, I realized that memorizing outdated textbooks wouldn’t prepare me for the future. A chance conversation introduced me to ASP.NET, and that moment changed everything. With no formal training, I taught myself to code, downloading resources on a slow internet connection and working late into the night. My mother, my biggest supporter, let me borrow her laptop and even invested in bringing internet access to our home.

I launched my first business in my dorm room—a small printing and internet service—while continuing to refine my coding skills. As I worked on my final-year project, an online assessment platform, a professor encouraged me to apply to study in the U.S. Despite last-minute application hurdles, I was accepted to Tufts University with a full scholarship. That moment changed the trajectory of my career.
